I have heard about Sustainable Fashion for some time now, but never really knew the concept of what it meant. I also have heard the term "Fast Fashion" and knew that it related to stores such as Zara, and H &M, and basically thought it might that you can get very high fashionable items that basically are knock offs of Designer styles for affordable prices. For this article I looked up the definition of Fast Fashion and this is what I found it to mean. "Fast fashion is a contemporary term used by fashion retailers to express that designs move from catwalk quickly to capture current fashion trends. Fast fashion clothing collections are based on the most recent fashion trends presented at Fashion Week in both the spring and the autumn of every year." This is according to Wikipedia. So I wasn't too far off the mark on that one. What I didn't know about "Fast Fashion" was the impact is was having on our environment and what is will mean to us long term. Initially when I see something I like, I buy it.
Even before I opened my own Poshmark Store https://poshmark.com/closet/sasyscloset , I was never opposed to buying pre-owned clothing and shopping in VintageThrift shops, and flea markets because I love Vintage Clothing and I shop those venues all the time because I like being unique in my style and not walking down the street wearing the same thing everyone else is wearing. Also if I am going to be extremely honest here, I also shop second hand because it is more affordable for me and allows me the opportunity to stay fashionable without breaking my budget. But honestly that is the only reason why I shop those stores. It has nothing at all to do with the environment.
But like I mentioned, when I opened my Poshmark Closet to make some extra money and extra room in my closets, I began doing research on trends, and what sells and reading articles about selling pre-used clothing and hearing time and time again about Sustainable Fashion, and came across the term "Slow Fashion" Okay now, I had a good idea about "Fast Fashion", but what the heck is "Slow Fashion" ?
According to http://study-ny.com/slow-fashion/ "Slow Fashion is the movement of designing, creating, and buying garments for quality and longevity. It encourages slower production schedules, fair wages, lower carbon footprints, and (ideally) zero waste. By adding transparency about our production process and educating consumers about the craft of making clothing, we hope consumers will begin to understand what is required of producing a well-made garment."
Basically from my own research what I am finding out to being a huge new trend is buying and selling pre-owned clothing which is many opportunities attached to it. The first is we want to be most concerned about the future of our environment, and how manufacturing effects our environment then slowing down on production is a great way to help. How do we slow down on the production? Well reselling clothing we no longer feel meets our style or needs, and passing that along to someone else who is looking for what you have to offer. It really becomes a win win for both the seller, and the buyer, and ultimately our environment.
Honestly that is not the reason why I opened my Poshmark Closet https://poshmark.com/closet/sasyscloset, like I already said, but now I have another reason to feel good about buying and selling pre-owned fashion.
I can remain very fashionable, keeping up on the newest trends in fashion at affordable pricing, selling those items that I feel have met my expectations and are no longer of interest to me which now I can pass along to another buyer who will benefit from what I am selling, and I am helping the environment.
If you are interested in finding some great clothing at very affordable pricing come over to my closet at https://poshmark.com/closet/sasyscloset and browse around. If you like the item, but not the price you have the option to make me a reasonable offer on the item, or bundle and save even more. I am very flexible because my goal is to have my customers fashionable and satisfied.
If you would like to learn more about Sustainable Fashion I found a great reference to it right here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_fashion
